Isaiah Kawesa
You know our work, now meet our staff. This is a chance to get to know us, and why we believe this work matters. Here’s our State Associate, Texas, Isaiah Kawesa.
Let’s start with two truths and a lie.
I can speak 3 languages.
I’ve lived outside of the U.S.
I’ve been to over 10 countries
Ok, now—what got you into peacebuilding?
Stories of my grandfather doing similar work in Uganda led me to go into grad school to follow in his footsteps.
Who’s your favorite peacebuilder, and why?
I would say my grandfather, he was an ambassador in Uganda known for bringing people together. Public facing, I would say Kofi Annan.
Why are you excited about being on the Common Ground USA team?
Our team has so many great people with great ideas. We have many opportunities to make real change, and the fruit of those opportunities is seen by the hard work put in each day.
If you could do one thing to create a safer, more united country, what would it be?
Make local bipartisan respectful discussions a popular thing. Like town hall meetings, but less intense.
What’s your go-to conflict de-escalation move in your day-to-day life?
Won’t say it's perfect or that I'm perfect at it, but listening more than speaking usually helps.
And finally… which one was the lie?
I’ve haven’t lived outside of the United States…yet👀
